WHO WE ARE
Small Scale Films Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to the conservation of amphibians and reptiles, responsible captive propagation, and the promotion of public education and understanding of reptiles and amphibians. These goals will be accomplished through the production of educational documentaries, which will appeal not only to reptile and amphibian hobbyists, but also to the general public.
WHY DOCUMENTARIES?
It’s user friendly. The medium of film allows us to relay a great deal of information, emotions, and images to the audience in an easy to digest and entertaining package. The average person may not want to sit down and read through a forum on a website like Kingsnake.com or Fieldherpforum.com to find out about herps and herp related issues, but they might sit down and watch a movie about the same subject. If we reach them, we might be able to change the way they think about herps and about our hobby. It’s self-sustaining. A donation now will start a cascade effect. Your donation will help us create this product and this product will carry your donation on to places it would have never gone alone. We need money to get this project off the ground, but a successful and entertaining film will generate funding and publicity through its sales and distribution that will allow us to make more films, donate to herp related causes, and aid in fundraising for other groups. It’s entertaining and educational.
THE MOST VENOMOUS, THE LARGEST, THE DEADLIEST etc.
Mainstream herp related TV and Film today leans heavily on the extremes of the reptile and amphibian world. Obviously, this does not accurately reflect the hobby and the hobbyists. We feel that field-herping, captive husbandry, and academic study pertaining to reptiles and amphibians should all begin with the understanding that: Reptiles and amphibians are the most approachable and observable animals in existence, and that photographing, collecting, studying, keeping, and breeding them is not an extreme sport, but a fun and safe way for people of all ages to experience the natural world.

The ultimate goal of Small Scale Films is conservation. We are exploring the possibilty of targeted purchases of land for the conservation of reptiles and amphibians. We believe the only way to conserve these creatures is by preserving their habitats, so the message of our films, the bulk of our assets, and the dream of our group is to purchase land and keep it safe from development so that the rare and unusual reptiles who live there can be enjoyed by many generations to come.
